Family Phylliidae Bradley & Galil, 1977

Subfamily Phylliinae

Leaf insects in which the body is strongly flattened dorsoventrally and the abdomen and legs bear broad lamellate expansions. In Australia they are represented by three known species. In the female the antennae are very short and the fore wings cover almost the whole of the body, while the hind wings are greatly reduced.

Subfamily Necrosciinae

Tooth-bearing stick insects.

This is a large, principally South-East Asian group of medium-sized phylluds, with long slender antennae and very small fore wings (in the winged forms).

Leaf insects and tooth-bearing stick insects. About 55 Australian species are known. The Phylliidae comprise eight subfamilies, of which only two are represented in Australia.
